Sex Offender Accused Of Breaking Into East Side Schools: Reports

The FBI and three local police departments coordinated to identify the suspect.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Police have arrested a registered sex offender for allegedly breaking into both Gilmour Academy and University School over the past few weeks. Jon Charles Titter was arrested on Tuesday, and is accused of illegally gaining access to both schools.

Shaker Heights Police were reportedly part of the team that identified and arrested Titter, Fox 8 News reports. University School was broken into last week, though Shaker Heights Police did not return a request for comment at that time.

Just before noon on June 21, police were called to University School, on Brantley Road, for reports of a break-in. Someone had gotten into the campus buildings overnight and stolen property, police said. Initial reports described the suspect as a white male.

After surveillance images of the suspect were released, law enforcement began receiving tips as to who had broken into the schools. The FBI, along with Gates Mills, Shaker Heights and Hunting Valley police, identified Titter and arrested him soon after.

Titter was reportedly convicted of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material in March 2003, Cleveland 19 News said. The 38-year-old will appear in court for the first time for these charges on Wednesday.
