Shaker Board Apologizes For Tense, Controversial Meeting
School district officials said they will try and respond better to community concerns.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The Shaker Heights Board of Education admitted that Thursday night's community meeting "didn’t go as anybody wished."
Parents demanded answers on why Shaker Heights High Principal Jonathan Kuehnle was placed on administrative leave. They got precious little information from district officials during the meeting.
"We know that we had the wrong format for this meeting and that we failed to give you the answers that you sought," the Board said. "Immediately after the meeting, we reached out to our District legal counsel and other consultants to assess each personnel matter and to discuss the information we can share with the community."

The Board said it expects to make more information on Kuehnle's absence available to the community soon. "While we go to great lengths to protect privacy, we expect to make more information available to you as soon as we can," the Board said.
Community members were asked to email their feedback to the Board at board@shaker.org. Information will be collected and given to the administration, who will figure out how to communicate and respond to families.

The district has assured parents the investigation did not concern the safety or well-being of students, and that no police investigation was ongoing.
