This will be a unique opportunity to hear about the research Marilyn Miller did while an intern this past summer at SHS. Marilyn is currently a history Master’s student at Cleveland State University. Marilyn hails from Amherst, Ohio. She received her history degree and 7-12th grade Social Studies licensure from the University of Mount Union in May 2013. As a graduate assistant for the CSU History Department, Marilyn has worked in the Center for Public History and Digital Humanities, conducting and logging oral histories, and writing and researching for the Center’s mobile app and website (clevelandhistorical.org).

Shaker Cures focuses on the methodology of natural medicines on which the North Union Shakers based their practices, identify the herbs grown in North Union and their intended purposes, and explore the reasons why North Union did not have a large medicinal output in comparison to other Shaker communities that focused on large scale production and manufacturing of Shaker remedies.
