Shaker Has 2nd Most National Merit Semifinalists In NE Ohio
With 11 students qualifying for the designation, Shaker outperformed almost all other public schools in region.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — The Shaker Heights Schools have produced the second most National Merit Semifinalists of any public school in Northeast Ohio this year. With 11 students qualifying for the designation, Shaker High outperformed many other districts in the region.
The students that were named National Merit Semifinalists are: Justin Bai, Elizabeth Brown, Emet Celeste-Cohen, Henry Crampton-Hays, Fenner Dreyfuss-Wells, Lia Gomez, Erenalp Kahriman, Isabel Levin, Kaitlin Nordstrom, Leo Schirokauer and Joshua Silver.
There are about 16,000 National Merit Semifinalists nationwide. They were culled from a pool of 1.6 entrants from 22,000 high schools. Becoming a National Merit Semifinalist means a student is part of an elite group of high-performers, representing less than 1 percent of the nation's high school seniors.

To qualify, students had to be among the highest scorers in their state on the PSAT. These qualifying students will have the chance to compete for National Merit Scholarship awards, which will be given out next spring.
Last year, nine Shaker Heights High School students were named National Merit Semifinalists.
