Shaker Heights Changes Trash Collection Rules During Coronavirus

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Shaker Heights is asking residents to follow new waste collection protocols to protect sanitation workers. The city said adhering to the rules will ease the burden on waste collection workers.

"In Shaker Heights, all refuse is collected by hand (we do not have mechanical claws to lift bulky items or garbage cans). This puts our workers at higher risk during the COVID-19 outbreak. It is imperative that these employees remain healthy and safe so that essential operations in the City can continue. Thank you very much for your understanding and your help," the city said in a statement on social media.

  1. Keep all waste and recyclables within the appropriate container or cart. Do not leave any waste outside of containers.
  2. Keep all material that does not fit in the container or cart for another week.
  3. Bring bulky, water damaged items to the large item drop-off at the Shaker Heights Service Center, 15600 Chagrin Boulevard.
