2 Students Land in Hot Water with Shaker Heights High School After Exposing Racism

The students found a classmate's racist rants online and brought them to the administration.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH - Two Shaker Heights High School students were disciplined after bringing their classmate's alleged racism to the attention of the school administration. Shaker Heights High School students briefly planned a walkout over the incident.

"As you may have seen in media reports, an unacceptable incident occurred at Shaker Heights High School this week. In response to ongoing questions, I would like to reiterate that the situation has been addressed with all parties involved," said Shaker Heights Superintendent Gregory Hutchings Jr. "While we cannot comment further due to student privacy, please know we followed the District's disciplinary protocol."

Fox 8 News reported that a Shaker Heights student posted multiple SnapChats ranting about the behavior of black people. Two students at the school then exposed the racism by reposting the rant. The next day, both students were called into their principal's office and told they were being suspended for "disruptive behavior."

News of the suspension spread among the students and a walkout was planned as a protest. The school responded with a message posted to its website on Friday: "We have been made aware that some students may be planning a walkout at noon to express dissatisfaction with a student issue. However, we want you to know the student issue has been resolved with all parties. The law doesn't allow us to discuss student issues with the public.Teachers and staff should continue to conduct school as normal."

Twitter was also abuzz with news of the suspensions, causing outrage.
