Shaker Heights National Merits Seminfinalists Announced

Selected based on PSAT scores, semifinalists represent less than 1 percent of a state's seniors.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Nine members of Shaker Height High School's class of 2018 have been named National Merit Semifinalists. The designated students are Gautam Apte, Daniel B.Crouse, Sarah Grube, Seamus Scanlon, Gabriel Sekeres, Sophia Solganik, Madeleine Suna, Jocelyn Ting and Anna Walker.

Those students will continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition. They will be able to compete for awards offered next spring as well as scholarships offered through colleges and corporations.

The National Merits Scholarship group has already designated 16,000 semifinalists. Approximately 1.6 million student entered consideration. Those students represent 22,000 high schools. The National Merit Scholarship group usually announces commended scholars before the end of October, so expect more announcements in the near future.
