Shaker Heights Precincts Busy in the Morning, Empty During the Day

One precinct reportedly had 500 voters before lunch.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH - Polls throughout the city were seeing only a trickling of voters during the mid-afternoon hours. However, workers said the precincts were hopping during the morning with one site reporting more than 500 voters before lunch.

One worker, who asked not to be named, said today's vote has been one of the smoothest she's been a part of. There have been almost no incidents in Cuyahoga County, she said. Even the lines have been running faster than usual.

Kanika Christian, one of the few voters who cast their ballot at 2 p.m., said this year's election was easier than any she could remember in terms of actually voting. She was happy to take advantage of the quiet polling locations.

Christian voted for Hillary Clinton, no surprise in strongly Democratic Shaker Heights. "It felt amazing to vote for a woman," she said.

But Christian, like so many other voters across the Buckeye State and the nation, has been worn down by a historically nasty presidential campaign. She said that more than anything else she's "relieved it's almost over."

"I'm hopeful we can all heal and move on after this," she said.
