Shaker Heights SWAT Peacefully Resolves Stand-Off

A 16-year-old girl was arrested by police after she barricaded herself in a house on Chagrin Boulevard.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH - Shaker Heights Police resolved a standoff with a barricaded juvenile suspect on Chagrin Boulevard on the morning of Oct. 25. The suspect had a gun and locked herself into a house before police were able to arrest her. The suspect was a 16-year-old girl.

Commander John Cole of Shaker Heights Police said that officers were attempting to arrest the juvenile for an outstanding warrant when she fled and barricaded herself in a house on the 17000 block of Chagrin Boulevard.

While two shots were fired from within the house, Cole said no officers were hurt during the incident and that the juvenile was the only person in the household.

Traffic on Chagrin Road, east of Lee Boulevard, was briefly closed.

Due to the proximity to Lomond Elementary, the school was briefly asked to keep children indoors. Cole says police then cleared the schools and that everything was "business as normal."

In a statement to parents, the Shaker Heights School district said: "As a precaution, the police department has asked Lomond to keep all students inside the building due to a incident in the community. Children are being guided into the building upon arrival and are not waiting outside to enter. School operations continue as normal."
