Shaker Heights Tree Contest Information

Have a special or weird tree in your yard? That oak tree could earn Heritage status and be honored on Arbor Day. Read on for more info.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH - Do you have a special tree in your life? It's an odd question to some and, perhaps, for other it is a question with an obvious answer. If you immediately pictured a particular tree on your property, you may be perfect for an upcoming competition in Shaker Heights.

The city is looking for trees to honor on Arbor Day. Basically, if you have a tree that is connected to a famous person, has an unusual shape or size, or is connected to a local landmark, your tree qualifies for Heritage status.

If your green amigo wins the contest, then the tree will be honored on April 28 (Arbor Day). To enter the contest you can visit this city website.

The submission form includes questions on the tree's circumference, height, crown spread, and the location of the tree.

The deadline to submit for the contest is coming up quickly. All submissions are due in by April 1, 2017 (which is not a bad practical joke). Nominations that come in after April 1, 2017 will be entered to win Heritage status in 2018.
