Shaker Schools In Session, May Dismiss Early Friday

With a severe winter storm forecast to hit the region this afternoon, the district is reminding parents what to do for early dismissal.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Shaker Heights Schools remained open Friday, despite forecasts of a severe winter storm that is set to hit Greater Cleveland starting at about noon. The district released a statement saying it may release students early, should conditions deteriorate.

The district said it will monitor weather conditions throughout the day and stay in contact with city officials. Should the weather make a turn for the worse, the district may release students early. In that event, here is what parents need to know:

  • Shaker Heights High School students will be dismissed with the usual end-of-day procedures.
  • Shaker Heights Middle School students will be dismissed with the usual end-of-day procedures. District buses will transport the students using the regular bus routes, or students may choose to remain at the school for parental pickup.
  • Students in grades K-6 will remain in the school building until picked up by an authorized adult.

The district said parents should text “Y” to 67587 to stay in the loop on any possible early closings or other emergency notifications from the district.
