Shaker Students Succeed in Ohio History Day
Student projects performed well at the district competition on March 23.

Shaker Heights students had 26 projects qualify for Ohio History Day after the district level competition on March 23.
High school students captured 23 of 29 slots in the Senior Division to compete at the state level of the National History Day Competition.
Students were required to do extensive research and preparation, develop an original thesis and demonstrate their knowledge and conclusions about this year’s theme, “Turning Points in History: People, Ideas, Events," according to to a school news release.

Top entries at the state-level competition in April will proceed to the national finals at the University of Maryland at College Park in June.
For the first time in many years, a number of middle school students participated in the Junior Division, claiming three additional slots at Ohio History Day. Five High School students volunteered many hours of their time after school to act as mentors for the Middle School participants.

In all, 63 students were recognized at this event for their outstanding work as historians.
Overall, 92 students participated in 50 different projects.
