Shaker's Mercer Elementary Sustains Water Damage
Roofing repairs during the heavy rains on Saturday, Sept. 17 caused damage to several classrooms.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH - Mercer Elementary sustained water damage during Saturday's storm, according to an email to parents that went out last night. Teachers and staff worked through the weekend to prepare the school for classes.
The water damage occurred because of roofing repairs that were taking place at the school, said Scott Stephens, the district's executive director of communications and public relations. Workers inadvertently blocked a drain pipe on the roof, causing water to build up and go down through the walls during the heavy rains Friday night. The district is expecting repairs to take between two and five days. There is not yet an estimate on the cost of the repairs, which Stephens says could be covered by insurance.
According to an email from Principal J. Lindsay Florence, classes that took place in the affected rooms have been temporarily moved to other areas in the building. Here's a list of changes and the rooms that were impacted:

- Room 01 - K Beney/Mulligan: Room 05 (Music Room)
- Room 11 - 1st Grade Eakin: Room 17 (Computer Lab)
- Room 12 - 1st Grade Schlein: Room 16 (Library)
- Room 21 - Baker/ERP/IB: Office Conference Room
- Room 22 - 2nd Grade White: Room 26 (Horvat)
- Music will take place on the stage in the Auditorium
- Librarians will travel to rooms for classes
