Shoplifters, Burglars Haunt Shaker Heights Over New Year's
Police helped catch thieves, found stolen bicycles, and investigated a burglary before 2018 came to a close.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Shoplifters and burglaries kept Shaker Heights police busy during the New Year's Eve celebrations.
On Saturday, police detained a 24-year-old woman that stole merchandise from Heinen's grocery store on Chagrin Boulevard. Police said they found $82 of stolen goods in the woman's possession.
The next day, on Dec. 30, a Chadbourne Road resident returned home and found that someone had burgled their house. Property was missing from the home and was likely taken during the previous week, police said. The home was unlocked at the time of the burglary.

On Sunday evening, police stopped two teenagers that had stolen bicycles from a shed on Westbury Road. Officers detained a 15-year-old and 14-year-old for the thefts. The shed was locked before the bikes were taken, police said.

On New Year's Eve, at 11 a.m., a man grabbed merchandise at Heinen's and then took off running. Police did not say if they have been able to identify the suspect.
Finally, on New Year's Day, a shoplifter was seen stealing merchandise from the CVS store on Chagrin Boulevard. The manager of the drug store contacted police about the theft.
