State Of The Schools Address Set For March 15 In Shaker Heights

Superintendent Gregory Hutchings will be delivering his final state of the schools address.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Before Superintendent Gregory Hutchings leaves the Shaker Heights School District at the end of the year, he will deliver his final State of the Schools address. That event will be held March 15 at 9 a.m. The district will live stream the speech.

The speech will be delivered at Shaker Heights High School in front of an audience of underclassmen. The speech will be streamed in each Shaker school, as well as online for parents and community members.

"Hutchings’ address this year will be a call-to-action for all students to inspire, create, achieve and sustain positive change here in the Shaker Heights Schools community and beyond. He also will share a five-year review of the accomplishments and initiatives implemented by the District’s talented faculty and staff. Guided by the District’s Strategic Plan, this work upholds our commitment to our aspirations of excellence, equity and exploration for all students," the district said on its website.

Hutchings will leave the district on June 30. He is returning to his hometown of Alexandria, Va. where he will become superintendent of the Alexandria City Public Schools. Hutchings became Shaker's superintendent in 2013.

An interim superintendent will come on in the spring so they can learn from Hutchings while he is still with the district. That should, the Board said in a statement, ease the transition while the district searches for its next, permanent superintendent.
