Threat Made to Northeast Ohio Schools on Instagram

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, OH - Police are investigating a threat made to several area schools on Instagram.

Instagram user clownbitch23 posted a picture with the words "Garfield high school tm" and wrote, "Murder spree on the gang man..." at 2 a.m. this morning. Schools in Garfield Heights, Beachwood, Eastlake,Euclid, Orange, Shaker Heights and Twinsburg have been placed on high alert.

Euclid City Schools issued a statement saying they're working with police, but they do not believe the threat to be credible. The Shaker Schools have also issued a statement on the incident, saying simply that the district is working with police and will keep parents informed about the investigation.

Several schools on the east side are closed for the Rosh Hashanah holiday, including Beachwood, Orange, Shaker Heights, and Twinsburg.

Detective Mark Menary of Garfield Heights police says the department is currently working with Instagram to get more information on the user and to determine the validity of the threats.

The clownbitch23 account appears to have been created yesterday and the account has already made several other threats to area schools, most notably Euclid High School. The caption on one photo of a clown read that the account holder would "be at Euclid High School tm [tomorrow]."

The user also wrote that while everyone was commenting on his post, thinking he was joking, he was serious about his threats. The account has nearly 2,800 followers in less than 24 hours.
