Unlocked Cars, Home Targeted In Thefts In Shaker Heights

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — It may seem like commonsense but never leave a car or house unlocked and unattended. Also, don't leave property unattended in public places. Some residents learned those lessons the hard way over the past week, with thieves capitalizing on their mistakes.

Theft, May 12 — A cell phone was stolen from a patron at the Shaker Heights Library. The phone had been left unattended.

Shoplifting, May 14 — An unidentified customer stole merchandise from the GameStop on Chagrin Boulevard Monday.

Theft, May 14 — Property was stolen off a bicycle parked in front of the Shaker Heights Library. The bicycle itself was locked to a rack.

Burglary, May 16 — Police were called to an unoccupied house on Colywyn Road on Wednesday. After an investigation, it was learned that someone stole equipment from the residence.

Theft, May 17 — A contractor working in the South Park and Coventry area reported that someone damaged a locked trailer and stole equipment.

Theft from Vehicle, May 17 — Someone stole property out of an unlocked car in the 3000 block of Abderdeen Road. The theft was discovered in the morning.
