Unlocked Cars, Homes Targeted In Shaker Heights

Prowlers and thieves hit a series of unlocked homes and vehicles throughout the city this past week.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — It seems that every week the Shaker Heights Police are asking residents to lock their houses and cars. Again, this week, residents found out why police are hammering that point. A series of homes and car were hit by thieves in the city. Read more about those incidents below.

Theft, May 21 - There was a run on lawn equipment over the weekend in Shaker Heights. Someone stole lawn equipment and electronics from a locked storage unit in the 2000 block of Van Aken Boulevard.

Shoplifting, May 21 - Police were called to the Walgreens store, 16400 Chagrin Blvd., for reports of a theft. Staff told officers that a man had grabbed cleaning supplies and fled the store. Police were able to locate and detain a 58-year-old Cleveland resident.

Theft, May 24 - A prowler stole money from an unlocked car parked in the 3000 block of Glencairn road.

Theft, May 24 - A contractor working in the 3000 block of Lynnfield Rd. reported that someone entered an unoccupied home and stole appliances.

Shoplifting, May 25 - The manager of CVS, 17120 Chagrin Blvd., reported that a man came into the store and stole cleaning supplies.

Theft, May 25 - Someone stole electronics and personal property from an unlocked vehicle parked in the 3000 block of Pennington Road. The owner of the car discovered and reported the theft at about 9:30 a.m.
