Violent Crime Drops Again In Shaker Heights
The department said there were 386 Part 1 crimes in 2017. Part 1 crimes are the most serious offenses dealt with by police.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Violent crime is down in Shaker Heights, according to the police department. Part 1 crimes — the most serious crimes — are down 25 percent compared to the same point in 2017.
Part 1 crimes include eight offenses: murder and non-negligent homicide, rape (legacy & revised), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny-theft, and arson, according to Uniform Crime Reporting statistics.
The department noted the significant decline in Part 1 crimes between 1983 and 2018. In 1983, there were 2,258 Part 1 crimes in Shaker Heights. In 2017, there were 386. So far, in 2018, Part 1 crimes are down 25 percent versus the same point in time in 2017.

"However, we recognize that as long as there is any number to report, we have work to do. That’s why our focus remains on ensuring there is a constant improvement in this trend. Crime is currently down, and this is mostly attributed to our partnership with the community," the Shaker Heights Police Department said on its Facebook page.
In 2016, there were 544 Part 1 crimes logged by Shaker Heights Police. Until 2017, that was the lowest Part 1 crime rate in city history. Things appear to be getting safer in Shaker Heights.
