100 MPH Driver Stopped In Solon, Refuses Breath Test

Police said the man was first spotted driving 80 mph in a 60 mph zone. When officers tried to catch up to him, the man sped up even more.

SOLON, OH — Police had to chase down a 100 mph car on US 422. The driver, police said, is believed to have been drinking before he got pulled over.

Officers first spotted the speeding car a little after 1 a.m. on August 3. The car was going east on US 422, near Harper Road, when it was seen driving 80 mph in a 60 mph zone, police records indicate.

Officers tried to catch up to the car to pull it over, but the car sped up to 100 mph. The vehicle finally came to a stop near the Bainbridge city line, Solon Police said.

The driver of the car, a 35-year-old from Newbury, had bloodshot eyes and smelled like alcohol, police said. Field sobriety tests were administered and indicated the driver was impaired. The 35-year-old was then arrested and taken to Solon Jail.

He refused to take a breath test once he was at the jail.

Police said they found a pipe with some kind of residue on it, an open container of alcohol and a folding knife in the man's possession. The driver is being charged with operating a vehicle impaired, speeding, making an improper lane change, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an open container of alcohol.
