3 Cars Hit During Wild Car Chase In Solon

Cops had to break out the driver's side window of the car and remove the keys after the woman crashed into a median island, police said.

SOLON, OH — A wild car chase ended when a woman drove her car into a median island near US 422 on Wednesday, police said. The woman allegedly hit multiple cars while trying to get away from police.

At about 3 p.m., police were called to the Bath & Body Works on Kruse Drive for reports of a theft in-progress. Police found Jacqueline Acres, the suspect, sitting in her car in the parking lot. Police report that Acres had walked out of the store with merchandise that she did not pay for.

She started to pull out of the store's lot when an officer confronted her and told her to turn her car off and hand over her car keys. Acres reportedly turned her car off, but wouldn't give up the keys. After repeated attempts to get her to turn over the keys, Acres re-started her car and sped through the parking lot onto Kruse Drive.

Acres drove east onto Bainbridge Road and then turned west onto Solon Road. Police tried to follow her, but terminated their pursuit because she was driving recklessly, reported Solon Police spokesperson in a statement.

A short while after abandoning their pursuit, police spotted Acres going north on Harper Road, heading towards US 422. When Acres saw a police cruiser she accelerated, police reported.

She lost control of her car and hit the median island. She got out of her car, police said, but continued to ignore commands from officers. When police approached she got back into her car and locked the driver's side door.

Acres tried to put her car into drive again. Police say they then broke the driver's side window, turned the vehicle off and took the car keys.

Acres reportedly has numerous warrants for her arrest, including a felony warrant through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Adult Parole Authority and a felony warrant through the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office for escape.

Police said that Acres hit three other vehicles while trying to get away from police, causing minor damage to the other cars.

Acres has been charged with theft, fleeing and eluding, obedience to traffic control devices, resisting arrest and driving under suspension.
