4 Impaired Drivers Arrested In 5 Days In Solon

Speeding, drifting out of lanes, open containers...police saw it all over that five-day stretch.

SOLON, OH — Solon Police cracked down on drunken driving during the final days of September and the opening week of October. Four arrests were made in five days for operating a vehicle impaired. Police found open containers in cars, and saw vehicles speeding and drifting out of their lanes, leading to the arrests.

OVI, September 28 — After illegally passing a car on Aurora Road, a car was pulled over by police. There were two people in the car. Officers saw an open beer in the cup holder of the vehicle. The passenger said it was his beer, not the driver's. The driver smelled of alcohol and slurred his words, police said. Field sobriety tests were done and indicated the driver was impaired. He was arrested and taken to Solon Jail. He took a breath test and blew a .156. The driver, a 53-year-old from Bedford Heights, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired, prohibited BAC, and improper passing. The passenger was charged with open container.

OVI, September 29 — A 32-year-old Oakewood man was arrested after he made an illegal turn and drifted out of his lane on late September 29. Field sobriety tests were given to the man and indicated he was impaired. At Solon Jail, the driver blew a .208 on a breath test. He has been charged with operating a vehicle impaired, prohibited BAC, and driving in marked lanes.

OVI, September 30 — Police saw a car driving at a high speed, with its high beams on, and straddling lanes on SR 91 a little before midnight on September 30. Officers stopped the car and put the driver through field sobriety tests, which indicated he was impaired. The driver, a Solon man, was arrested and taken to jail, but refused to take a breath test. He is being charged with operating a vehicle impaired, failure to dim high beams, marked lanes, and no seat belt.

OVI, October 2 — A 26-year-old Oakwood man was arrested after he was stopped for drifting left of center in his car. The man had a suspended driver's license and an active warrant for his arrest in Bedford Heights. The man smelled of alcohol, police said, and field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired. The man was taken to Solon Jail and refused to take a breath test. He is charged with operating a vehicle impaired, driving under suspension, and drifting left of center. He is also being held for Bedford Heights Police.
