City council members pressed the project manager over months of delays, safety concerns, and cost changes, while learning that parking, restrooms, concessions, and the new entry gate should all be ready by the October deadline.
2. School treasurer says levy funds invaluable in 5-year forecast (chagrinvalleytoday.com) — Solon Schools' treasurer says the recently passed 6.9-mill operating levy is keeping the district "solid and strong" in its new five-year financial forecast, avoiding major cuts. At the first evening board meeting of the year, officials detailed when levy dollars arrive, approved building substitute positions and extracurricular contracts, and highlighted back-to-school community events and safety reminders for drivers.
3. Two Teens Rob Man's Car at Gunpoint, But They Don't Get Very Far (mandatory.com) — A Facebook Marketplace car sale in Solon turned into an armed carjacking and 115-mph chase that ended in a multi-car crash and serious injuries. Solon police arrested the 18-year-old driver at the scene and recovered a loaded handgun, while the 19-year-old accomplice faces charges after hospital treatment. No life-threatening injuries were reported among the other drivers and children involved.
4. Twinsburg council weighs renewal of 5-year Flock police camera deal (cleveland.com) — Twinsburg officials are debating a five-year renewal of Flock license plate-reading cameras, a system that already links with nearby departments in Solon and Aurora. As council weighs cost, privacy, and data-retention concerns ahead of September votes, police argue the shared camera network has become a key tool for tracking stolen vehicles and other investigations across neighboring communities.
5. 'Adult Swim' veteran gives us horror comedy 'Buddy' (courant.com) — A new R-rated horror-comedy film, "Buddy," was partly shot at a house in Solon, putting the city on the map for a nationwide theatrical release. Director Casper Kelly and local producer Tyler Davidson used several Northeast Ohio locations and praised the region's film-friendly atmosphere. Scenes with stars Cristin Milioti and Topher Grace were primarily filmed here.
