Attempted Suicide Won't Change Solon Jail Policies
Ohio code mandates that prisoners be offered the opportunity to shave if there are no indications they may hurt themselves.

SOLON, OH — A 26-year-old prisoner at Solon Jail attempted to kill themselves on Dec. 13. The prisoner took apart a disposable razor and used the blades to cut his wrists. Jail administrators say there is little that can be done to prevent such incidents.
Ohio code requires that prisoners be offered an opportunity to shave if there are no indications they may attempt to hurt themselves, said Sergeant William McGee, jail administrator for Solon Police.
"We already buy the most security enhanced razors that we can find," McGee said. "This particular prisoner did not exhibit any indications prior to requesting the razor that he intended to hurt himself."
