Bicycle Program Solon Spins Rolls Out September 27

Residents will soon be able to rent a variety of bicycles and ride them through the city.

SOLON, OH — The new Solon Spins program will open September 27. To celebrate the start of the project the city will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 26, at 4 p.m., at the Community Center.

The Solon Spins program aims to give all residents, regardless of age, ability or affordability, the opportunity to ride a bicycle. Residents can borrow bikes from the Solon Community Center and Solon Senior Center. Bikes will be available starting September 27.

“We are very excited to be able to offer this program to our residents so everybody can experience the joys of riding a bike in our beautiful city,” said Solon Mayor Edward Kraus. “Through Solon Spins, we are able to provide everyone the ability to affordably borrow a bicycle that meets their needs so we hope people take advantage of this great opportunity.”

The fee for bike rentals is $2 for up to two hours of riding. Residents will be able to rent bikes from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The hours for bike rentals will be adjusted seasonally.

Residents can rent an adult tricycle, a child tricycle, a recumbent bike, a step-through bike, a bicycle with training wheels, children's bikes in 16 inches, 20 inches and 24 inches, and three standard hybrid bicycles. Bicycle helmets will also be available for rent.

The Solon Spins program will also offer education through "try it" programs. The next "try it" events are Monday, September 30 at 1 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at Fall Fest.
