Brown Powder Found On Passed Out Driver In Solon: Police

Police said they saw a car idling at a green light on Friday morning and then saw the driver asleep at the wheel.

SOLON, OH — On Friday morning, a driver passed out behind the wheel of his car on SOM Center Road, Solon police said.

An officer on patrol saw the car idling at a red light on SOM Center Road, near US 422 at 1:10 a.m. When the light turned green, the car did not move. The officer decided to investigate what was happening.

As the officer approached the car, he saw the driver asleep at the wheel. The car was still running and was in gear, police said. The officer opened the driver's side door and put the car in park.

The driver began to rouse when the officer opened his door, but the driver was incoherent and unable to say where he was. Police tried to put the driver through field sobriety tests, but he couldn't keep his eyes open, his pupils were constricted and did not respond to light.

The driver, a 45-year-old from West Virginia, was taken into custody. During the booking process, two baggies of brown powder were found in the man's wallet. The man was given a breath test and blew a .000.

Due to the man falling asleep and remaining incoherent, police took the man to a hospital for evaluation. Charges against the man will be filed once tests determine what the brown powder is.
