Car Wipes Out Utility Pole, Driver Arrested In Solon
Police were called to the scene of a crash at 3 a.m. Nov. 3. The ensuing investigation ended with arrests.

SOLON, OH — Police were called to the scene of a car accident in the early morning hours of Nov. 3. The ensuing investigation found a wiped out utility pole, an Infiniti vehicle parked in the grass, and a driver that would later be charged with operating a vehicle while impaired and improper handling of a firearm.

Theft, Nov. 2 — A 48-year-old Market District employee was putting carts away Oct. 27 when he became over-heated and decided to remove his coat. He left the jacket on one of the brick pillars in the front of the store. Later, when he went to retrieve his jacket, it was no longer there. The employee told management about the theft. Surveillance footage identified the person responsible for the theft. After the person's identity was confirmed, a 62-year-old Solon man was given a summons complaint for theft.

OVI, Nov. 3 — Police arrested a 57-year-old Avon woman for operating a vehicle impaired. Police began pursuing the woman when dispatch received a call about a vehicle driving erratically on Aurora Road. Officers caught up to the vehicle and stopped it on SR 91, in front of Carter Lumber. There was an odor of alcohol coming from the driver. The woman's eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Her speech was slurred. She was arrested and taken to jail. She refused a breath test.
OVI, Nov. 3 — At 3:08 a.m., police responded to a crash at Bainbridge and Harper roads. A white Infiniti was in the grass at 29800 Bainbridge Road. A telephone pole had been completely broken from the ground. The driver, a 38-year-old Beachwood man, was behind the wheel of the Infiniti. A smell of alcohol undulated from him. He also had bloodshot eyes. Field sobriety tests indicated the man was impaired. He was arrested and taken to Solon Jail. He blew a .140 on a breath test. Police also found a gun in a cardboard box, with a loaded magazine inserted into the gun well. The man was charged with OVI, prohibited BAC, failure to control and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Criminal Simulation, Nov. 3 — An unidentified man came into the 7 Eleven store and used 10 counterfeit $20 bills to complete a transaction. The man also got $5 in change. The cashier did not realize the bills were fake until they attempted to put them in the safe. The detective bureau is studying surveillance footage and will follow up on the crime.
