Damaged Car Stopped In Solon, Wiped Out Stop Sign In Twinsburg

Officers saw a badly damaged vehicle on Aurora Road and stopped it for being unsafe. Turns out, the car had collided with a stop sign.

SOLON, OH — Officers spotted a badly damaged car as it cruised down Aurora Road, near SR 91 recently. They stopped the vehicle because it appeared to be unsafe to drive. The driver, who appeared to be intoxicated, revealed that he had hit a stop sign in Twinsburg before going on his merry way.

Fraud, Nov. 12 — A deal between a dentist and his customer went awry very slowly. A 68-year-old Shaker Heights resident who has a dental practice in Solon said a customer agreed to pay for a procedure through a series of debit payment slips, each processed on a specific date. After the third successful payment, the remaining payments were denied for insufficient funds. The patient, a 75-year-old Barberton man, said he had no intention paying his remaining debt. A demand letter was returned and an arrest warrant for the man was issued. The man has $1,087 left on his dental procedure bill. The 75-year-old is also wanted by Barberton Police.

Theft, Nov. 11 — An off-duty cop working security at Market District, 34310 Aurora Rd., saw a man leaving the store with a bottle of Crown Royal Whiskey stuffed into his coat pocket. When confronted, the man revealed he did not have a receipt for the alcohol. Surveillance footage showed the man, a 19-year-old from Bedford Heights, pull the bottle from its box in the liquor store and place it in his coat pocket before trying to leave the store. The 19-year-old was issued a misdemeanor citation for theft and a written warning for trespassing. It is now a crime if the man returns to the Market District.

OVI, Nov. 13 — An extremely damaged car was stopped on Aurora Road, near SR 91, for being unsafe to drive. The driver of the car, a 39-year-old Reminderville man, smelled of alcohol and had red, bloodshot eyes. When officers spoke to the man, he had slurred speech. While interviewing the man, officers learned the man had hit a traffic sign in Twinsburg, on Liberty Road, causing the damage to his car. The 39-year-old was arrested and taken to Solon Jail where he took a breath test, blowing a .344. He was charged with OVI, prohibited BAC and driving an unsafe vehicle.

Theft, Nov. 15 — Video surveillance revealed a pair of thefts that had occurred at Market District. A store employee contacted police and detailed the thefts. The first incident took place Nov. 13 at about 6:15 a.m. An older man removed $207 worth of 5-Hour Energy drinks. The second theft took place Nov. 14. A man came into the store and shoved two bottles of champagne into his coat before leaving without paying. The bottles were valued at about $80 total. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.
