Don't Shortcut Through Parking Lots In Solon, Police Warn
Construction on Miles has taken longer than expected and drivers have decided to circumvent traffic. Problem is, their shortcut is illegal.

SOLON, OH — Construction season is still in full-swing in Northeast Ohio. Frustrated with logjammed traffic, some drivers in Solon have been taking shortcuts through parking lots to avoid delays. Problem is, those shortcuts are illegal.
Just ask Solon Police.
The department took to Facebook this week to warn drivers that cutting through the parking lot of shopping centers to get around construction delays — like the one on Miles Road — is illegal. It's also dangerous.

"Please stop shortcutting the lot and take a safe alternate route. We will be enforcing the following ordinance until the project is completed (hopefully by week's end)," the department said on Facebook.
There are other construction areas in the city, like the one that opened this week on Solon Road, and similar shortcuts are forbidden in those areas too.

The city's ordinance against such shortcuts reads as follows:
No operator of a motor vehicle shall enter upon private property for the sole purpose of driving across that property, between abutting streets or other public ways thereof. The failure to stop on the property in connection with or in furtherance of the enterprise or activities being conducted on the property shall constitute prima facie evidence of the violation.
