Drunken Driver Had Child, Gun In Car: Solon Police

Police stopped the driver's car after it was clocked driving 58 mph in a 35 mph zone.

SOLON, OH — Police stopped a car that was driving 20 mph over the speed limit on Saturday, on SR 91. The driver told police he had four drinks and had a weapon in his glove box.

The car was pulled over at 8:30 p.m. Police said the car was clocked going 58 mph in a 35 mph zone. The car was topped on SR 91, near Pettibone Road.

The driver smelled like alcohol, police said. He reportedly admitted to having "four drinks" and also said he had a concealed weapons permit and a weapon in the glove box. There was also a small child in the vehicle.

The driver was given field tests and police said he was determined to be intoxicated. The 39-year-old, from Solon, was arrested and taken to Solon Correction Center. The child was picked up by a relative.

Police found a gun and a magazine, loaded with eight round, in the glove box.

The man took a breath test at the Correction Center, blowing a .141, police said.

The driver is now charged with speeding, operating a vehicle intoxicated, prohibited BAC, endangering children, and weapons while intoxicated.
