Drunk Driver Tries To Fight Solon Cops On Thanksgiving

A 37-year-old man refused to be placed into a cop car after being arrested. The man jumped out of the vehicle and charged at police.

SOLON, OH — An intoxicated 37-year-old man tried to fight Solon cops after he was arrested on Thanksgiving. The man refused to be placed into a patrol car and then tried to charge at officers while in handcuffs. He has been charged with operating a vehicle impaired, speeding and resisting arrest.

Police were called to the area of Pettibone Road and Cromwell Drive at about 1 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Residents in the area were complaining about loud cars.

While checking on the situation, an officer saw a car driving on Pettibone at a high rate of speed. The officer used a radar gun to record the car's speed, it was going 48 mph in a 35 mph zone. The officer stopped then speeding car before SR 91.

The driver smelled like alcohol, police say. Field sobriety tests indicated that the 37-year-old Twinsburg man that was driving the car was impaired. Officers then tried to arrest the 37-year-old.

Officers attempted to place the man into the rear of a vehicle. The 37-year-old resisted, refusing to put his legs into the vehicle. He then got out of the car, while still handcuffed, and charged at police.

Officers subdued the man and got him into the police vehicle. That wasn't the end though.

The 37-year-old began cursing at police and slamming his head against the partition between the vehicle's front and back seats. The head banging led to a cut on the man's forehead.

The 37-year-old refused a breath test at Solon Jail. He has been charged with OVI, speeding and resisting arrest.
