Help Victims Of Hurricane Florence At Solon Fundraiser

An upcoming donation drive will aid the thousands of people whose lives were disrupted by the hurricane.

SOLON, OH — Hurricane Florence killed 37 people in North Carolina, forced more than 1,500 people into temporary living shelters and wreaked destruction on several states. To try to ease the burden faced by North Carolinans, the city of Solon is hosting a fundraiser and donation drive to benefit victims of the hurricane.

The event will be held October 10 in the Solon Community Center, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and must be paid for using cash or check. Checks can be made out to the American Red Cross, the city said.

During the event, attendees will have the chance to win a variety of prizes. An entry ticket to the donation drive is also an automatic entry for a door prize. There will also be a 50/50 raffle, a Chinese raffle, and more.

“Frank Corlett, an employee with the Finance Department approached me with the idea for this donation drive. ‘Service over self’ is the motto of our City. Our residents, businesses, and employees live it every day and this confirms our passion to help others in need. Frank, Allyne Zamcheck, Dave Peleg and Michelle Dinda should be commended for all of their hard work in putting this fundraiser together. They have contacted local businesses who are donating food and raffle prizes for the event,” said Mayor Ed Kraus.

A bevy of local businesses and Northeast Ohio celebrities have made contributions to the event already, including Congressman David Joyce, Fox 8 News, Grantwood Golf Course, Nestle, and the American Red Cross, among many, many others.
