House Fire Displaces Solon Family

The blaze started at 8 p.m. and did damage to a Miles Road home's roof and second floor. A family of four is now living in a hotel.

SOLON, OH — Firefighters from Solon and neighboring communities battled a house fire for nearly two hours on Tuesday night. The blaze did significant damage to the roof and second floor of a Miles Road home, leaving a family of four living in a local hotel, Assistant Fire Chief Steve Shebeck said.

Dispatch received word of a fire at a Miles Road home at about 7:50 p.m. Sixteen Solon firefighters were soon at the scene trying to contain the fire. Crews from Chagrin Falls, Orange Village, Bedford Heights, Oak Village and Reminderville all helped out, trying to extinguish the flames.

"It was a persistent fire," Shebeck told Patch. "It spread along the whole roof area and got into some enclosed spaces."

By 10 p.m., crews had contained the fire.

The house is rented by a family of four. Only two people, a mother and daughter, were at home at the time of the fire. Neither person was hurt. Solon Fire set the family up at a local hotel and connected them with resources at the Red Cross.

The fire was actually noticed because one of the residents saw the reflection of flames around the chimney area of the house.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the fire but it initially appears to be an accidental blaze.
