Hydrant Flushing Starts Tuesday In Solon

SOLON, OH — The city is planning to conduct a Solon-wide hydrant flushing starting Tuesday. The flushing will continue through Friday. Temporary discoloration of water is a possibility for houses in the vicinity of the flushed hydrants.

The discoloration is the result of a harmless silt and should not impact the safety of the water. If discoloration continues after crews have finished flushing nearby hydrants, residents should run all of their faucets, at the same time, for a few minutes, to clear their own water pipes.

Residents should expect to see firefighters flushing the hydrants near them. The flushing of the hydrants allows the city to flush the water lines connected to the hydrants. The city flushes the water pipes every so often to get rid of built-up sediment or other deposits, the city said on its website.

All flushing schedules are subject to change based on emergency calls to the fire department.
