Impaired Drivers Targeted By Solon Police

Police recently busted four people for drinking and driving, or smoking weed and driving.

SOLON, OH — Solon Police busted four people for drinking and driving over the past two weeks. Most of the suspects were speeding or driving recklessly prior to police pulling them over.

The first arrest happened August 16, at about 10:33 p.m. Police saw a car speeding and weaving on US 422 and stopped the vehicle. The driver, a 28-year-old from Cleveland, took field sobriety tests and was then arrested. He was taken to Solon Jail where he took a breath test and blew a .173. He is being charged with operating a vehicle impaired, prohibited BAC, speeding and driving in marked lanes.

The second arrest happened two days later, during the early morning hours of August 18. Patrolling officers saw a car on US 422 that couldn't stay in its lane. The driver had red, glassy eyes, police said. The driver, a Richmond Heights man, also smelled like alcohol. He was arrested and taken to Solon Jail. He provided a urine sample, which will be tested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol lab. He has been charged with operating a vehicle impaired, driving in marked lanes and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Before August 18 was over, police arrested another person for speeding and drinking while driving. The driver appeared to be impaired, police said. Field sobriety tests confirmed this observation, police said, so the driver was arrested and taken Solon Jail. The driver refused to take a breath test.

The driver also had his juvenile son in the car with him, police said. The driver is being charged with operating a vehicle impaired, speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, and endangering children.

Finally, on August 21, police arrested a 33-year-old Cleveland man after he was stopped for driving 78 mph in a 60 mph zone on US 422. The man smelled like weed, police said, and had loose marijuana on his shirt. Field sobriety tests indicated the man was impaired, so he was arrested and taken to Solon Jail.

The man blew a .000 on a breath test, but also submitted a urine sample that will be tested by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lab. Right now, the man is charged with operating a vehicle impaired, speeding and not wearing a seatbelt.
