Legislation Encourages Women's Advancement in the Workforce

State Representatives Marlene Anielski and Nan Baker today applauded the passage of House Bill 575, legislation that establishes the Ohio Economic Council on Women to examine the economic concerns and needs of women in Ohio.

The bill would study employment policies and practices, educational needs and opportunities, child care, property rights, health care, domestic relations and the effect of federal and state laws on women. 

Under the guidelines of H.B. 575, the council would be comprised of 15 members who would be appointed by the Governor, the President and Minority Leader of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Minority Leader of the House.  The council would report to the Governor, the General Assembly and other state and local agencies.

“Encouraging women to serve on state boards and commissions, evaluating and quantifying the results of job training programs, and advising the Governor and the General Assembly of the economic status of women in the state of Ohio will significantly contribute to advancing all women,” said Rep Anielski, who jointly sponsored the bill with Rep. Baker.

“We strongly believe in the power of women and want to create opportunities for women to succeed in Ohio and across the globe,” said Rep Baker.

House Bill 575 passed with unanimous support and will now move to the Senate for further consideration.
