SOLON, OH — The adult mosquito population is on the rise in Solon, the city said. To combat the increase in the insect population, the Service Department will conduct a citywide treatment.

The treatment will be done in zones. Zones 1 and 2 will be treated on Tuesday, June 26. Zones 3 and 4 will be treated on Thursday, June 28. Treatments will begin at 8 p.m. and conclude by 11:30 p.m. each day.

In the event of rain on June 26, both dates will be pushed back one day, to Wednesday and Friday, respectively. If rain only occurs on Thursday, then that treatment will be pushed back to Friday.

The Ohio Department of Health notes that mosquitoes are most active during the region's warmest months: from May through October. The insects can spread diseases, like La Crosse and St. Louis encephalitis.

The ODH recommends residents apply insect repellent before spending time outdoors in the summer. When possible, wear an extra layer of clothing and choose light-colored attire.
