Pig Feet and Chicken Scam Costs Solon Man $3,780

A Solon man got ripped off as part of a scam involving pig feet and chickens being shipped to China.

SOLON, OH - Pig feet and chickens aren't always associated with common scams. Yet, one Solon man found himself at the losing end of a fraud involving both. Read on for more details.

Theft, Hillside Lane: As scams go, this one was unique. A 48-year-old resident came to the police station on Jan. 27, saying he had been the victim of a scam. The man said that he and a partner were involved in a shipment of chicken and pig feet from Brazil to China. The trade was coordinated by a third party in Mississippi. The third party requested the resident wire $3,780 to a bank account in Houston. Of course, no shipment was ever made, the bank account in Houston has been closed, and the Mississippi person has disappeared. Detectives are going to investigate.

Receiving Stolen Property, H & H Towing: Police reviewing H&H's tow files on Jan. 29 discovered that one of the impounded vehicles had been entered as stolen by Cleveland Police in January 2017. An issue with the initial theft report had caused a delay in entering the stolen vehicle, so when the officer stopped the driver and towed the car in December it was not entered. An arrest warrant has been issued for felony Receiving Stolen Property for Adazhia Bush, 21, of Cleveland.

Improperly Handling a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, US 422: Officers stopped a car going 77 mph in a 60 mph zone on US 422 East near Chagrin Highlands. The driver had a suspended license and during a search of their car police found a .380 handgun. Johnie Williams, 48 of Warren, was charged with Speed, Driving under Suspension and Improperly Handling a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle.

Fleeing & Eluding, US 422: Justin Kotrlik, 36 of Mantua, allegedly decided he could outrun police on Jan. 28. He was caught doing 83 mph in a 60 mph zone. When police flipped on the overhead lights and tried to pull him over, Kotrlik decided to keep driving, police say. At a certain point the driver called 911 from his cell phone indicating that he did not want to stop on the freeway, but eventually pulled over approximately one mile into Bainbridge Township. Kotrlik was arrested and charged with Speed and Fleeing & Eluding.

OVI, Harper Road: Police stopped a man for speeding on US 422 on Jan. 28. The man was driving 75 mph in a 60 mph zone. He was stopped on Harper Road and, upon approaching the car, the officer noticed that there was a can of beer in the front passenger seat. There was an odor of an alcoholic beverage and Woodson had bloodshot eyes; his performance of the field sobriety tests indicated impairment and he was arrested and taken to jail where he submitted to a breath test with a result of .125. Mark Woodson, 55 of Garfield Heights, is charged with OVI, Prohibited BAC, and Speed.

DOA, Aurora Road: Solon Fire and Rescue reported to an Aurora Road home on Jan. 30 for a 16-month-old baby that was not breathing. The boy was transported by crews and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police say there is no initial sign of foul play. The detective bureau will be working with the Medical Examiner’s office to follow up on the death.

OVI, Derby Downs: A car was running with its hazard lights on on Jan. 31 on Derby Downs Drive. An officer investigated and found the driver sleeping behind the wheel. After speaking with him, officer say they could smell alcohol. Police also noticed damage to the front of the vehicle and, when questioned, the driver said that he had hit a snowbank near Parkside Church in Bainbridge. Field sobriety tests indicated that the driver was impaired and he was arrested and taken to jail where he submitted to a breath test with a result of .98. Michael Golden, 18 of Solon, was charged with OVI and Prohibited BAC.
