Police Rescue 92-Year-Old Driving Wrong Way On US 422 In Solon
It was 1 a.m. when callers started reporting a wrong-way driver. The woman later told police she was "just trying to get home."

SOLON, OH — Solon Police rescued a 92-year-old woman that was driving the wrong way on US 422 on May 28. The woman would eventually tell police that she was "just trying to get home." Officers ended up escorting her to her house.
Callers started reporting a wrong-way driver at about 1 a.m. on May 28. Officers caught up to the described car as it was going west in US 422's east lanes at a low rate of speed. Police had to stop all traffic in the westbound lanes and then wave the driver to a stop.
The nonagenarian pulled to a stop near mile marker 18/8. She told police she was just trying to get home.

Paramedics came to the scene and evaluated the woman. She was cleared and police put the woman in a cruiser and drove her home. The woman's car was taken to Solon Police Station for safekeeping.

OVI, May 24 — An officer patrolling US 422 spotted an Audi going 71 mph in a 60 mph zone. The Audi actually sped up as it passed other officers that were conducting their own traffic stop, Solon Police said. So the patrolling officer followed the Audi and saw it drive over the hash marks twice. The officer pulled the car and spoke with the driver, a 24-year-old Chagrin Falls resident. The driver smelled like alcohol, police said. The officer put the man through field sobriety tests and then arrested him. At Solon Jail, the driver took a breath test and blew a .132 BAC. He has been charged with operating a vehicle impaired, prohibited BAC, marked lanes, speed and approaching stationary public safety vehicle displaying emergency lights.
Carrying a Concealed Weapon, May 25 — A 22-year-old Cleveland man was detained at an OVI checkpoint when police smelled marijuana while talking to him, according to Solon Police. Officers searched the man's car and found 3.9 grams of marijuana and a black digital scale in the man's pocket. Police also found a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 caliber revolver underneath the driver's seat. The 22-year-old was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, drug possession and drug paraphernalia.
OVI, May 26 — A Virginia man was stopped by police after was clocked driving 83 mph in a 60 mph zone on US 422. The man reportedly had bloodshot eyes and smelled slightly of alcohol, police said. The man refused to perform any field sobriety tests and was arrested. When police searched his car, they found a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P Shield pistol in the locked glovebox. The man had valid CCW permits from Utah, but didn't tell police about that until after the weapon was discovered. The man was taken to Solon Jail, where he refused to take a breath test. He has been charged with operating a vehicle impaired, speeding, and improper handling of firearms in a motor vehicle.
