Possible Attempted Burglary Being Investigated In Solon

A resident found a man creeping through a bedroom in her house, police said.

SOLON, OH — Police are investigating a possible attempted burglary that happened on Timberlane Drive this month.

A little before 4 p.m. on August 16, a Solon man was doing lawn work outside his home on Timberlane. While working, a truck pulled into his driveway and a stocky man with a Mohawk haircut got out and offered to help the man for free. The two went into the backyard to look at the trees on the property.

While the two men were in the backyard, the resident's wife saw someone in the house. She found him inside one of the bedrooms and confronted him. The man said he was checking for leaks in the roof.

The wife brought the man into the kitchen and they sat and talked. The man asked the wife if she had change for a $100 bill, but he would not accept anything other than $50 bills in exchange. When the wife could not provide $50 bills, the man and his partner got back into their truck and left.

The vehicle was "shiny and black with a big windshield," the residents told police. Nothing appears to have been taken from the home, police said.

Police departments frequently warn residents of scammers that offer free services. These con men usually work in pairs. While one of the tandem distracts a resident, the other will enter a home and burglarize it.
