Post-Charlottesville, Solon Mayoral Candidate Wants To Create Unity Group

From Mayoral Candidate Jennifer Brush: Ambassador (Ret.) Jennifer Brush pledged to create a Unity Task Force in the City of Solon as one of her first acts as Mayor. Brush, whose decorated diplomatic career included service as Ambassador to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General, issued the following statement:

“Our country faces a crisis of immeasurable proportions highlighted by this past weekend’s events in Charlottesville, VA. Ambiguous and rhetorical statements issued by the President have done nothing to ease this crisis. While we have been fortunate that Solon has been, and continues to be, a wonderful place to live with people of all races and creeds living in harmony, I will provide the leadership and vigilance necessary to ensure that we continue to live and grow together.

“I am therefore announcing that as one of my first acts in office, I will call for the creation of Solon’s Unity Task Force to provide our citizens and elected officials with an ongoing forum to meet and ensure that lines of communications remain open, giving each and every resident an opportunity to move our city forward in a positive direction.

“A hallmark of my leadership as a United States diplomat representing our country in troubled areas around the world for over 30 years has been the ability to unite people of divergent views and ideologies through proactive measures, and I pledge to continue these efforts as Mayor. The creation of this Task Force will only be the beginning of providing Solon residents a break from Town Hall’s uncommunicative past – I will lead an administration that is open, transparent and compassionate in every respect.

“Intolerance in any form should not exist in Solon, and will not be tolerated under my administration.”
