Rash Of Cars Stolen In Solon On July 20
Two cars were stolen out of driveways in Solon on the same night. There were also a rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles.

SOLON, OH — Solon Police are investigating a series of car-based thefts that took place on July 20. Two cars were stolen and several vehicles were rifled through. All of the incidents appear to have been crimes of opportunities because all of the involved vehicles were unlocked.

Theft, July 20 — Someone stole a 1996 Mercury Sable out of a Woodall Drive resident's driveway. The vehicle had been parked in the driveway at about midnight. The resident left the car windows down and the keys in the ignition. The vehicle was discovered missing at 8 a.m. on July 20. There were tire tracks on the resident's lawn, as well as damage to the stonework in the driveway and a mailbox in the street that appeared to have been run over by the stolen vehicle. The resident's wallet and identification were also inside the stolen car.

Theft, July 20 — Another crime of opportunity hit Solon on July 20. This time a 21-year-old Cheswick Drive resident reported that someone had stolen several items from his unlocked car overnight. Other victims then began coming forward saying items had also been taken from their cars. Some people came forward reporting items they had found in the street, including items from the stolen vehicle (see previous incident). A resident said they saw a black Cadillac sedan stopped on the street, with a young man in a peach shirt and short hair, running up a driveway at about 2:15 a.m. Police are investigating the incidents.
Theft, July 20 — The third major car-based theft incident on July 20 occurred when someone stole a 41-year-old Parkside Trail resident's 2006 Jeep Liberty. The vehicle had been parked in the resident's driveway, unlocked and with the keys inside, and was stolen between 9 p.m. on July 19 and 8 a.m. July 20. The man discovered the theft when Orange Police called the man and said his car had been involved in an incident in their village and was being towed.
