Scammers Target Solon Business, Resident
Police said they are looking into the ploys that cost a local business and resident a lot of money.
SOLON, OH - Two frauds hit a Solon business and resident recently.
On May 25, at about 8:15 p.m., an employee from a local business went to the Solon Police Department and reported being the victim of a scam. The man said he received an email from someone claiming to be the president of his company.
The email asked the man to answer questions about the company's financial activities. The man answered, then received a second email with an invoice. The emailer asked the employee to pay the full invoice, ignoring typical procedures. The employee complied, sending a wire transfer.

After making the payment, a third email came asking the employee to make another payment via wire transfer. The employee thought this was strange, checked into the email address and found it was a spoof. The Solon detective bureau is now investigating the case.
On May 29, a Solon resident came to the police department to report that someone calling themselves "Bob White" had called them. White told the resident they had a warrant for their arrest and needed to pay the Social Security Administration $900...in Google Play Gift Cards.

White told the resident they would be arrested if they did not comply.
The resident bought the gift cards and gave the numbers to the caller. Detectives are investigating the incident.
