Schools Reopening: Solon Politician Holds Town Hall
State Rep. Phil Robinson recently held a town hall on how schools will reopen in the fall.
SOLON, OH — State Rep. Phil Robinson held a virtual town hall to discuss how schools will reopen in the fall.
“This was my first town hall with a panel discussion. I felt it was important for the pressing issue of reopening schools to bring in the view points of education leaders and those who will be on the frontlines of administering our children’s education this fall,” said Robinson.
As discussed during the event, in-person classes have been recommended (though not mandated) for public schools across Ohio. Each district will determine how it will move forward in the fall.

Joelle Magyar, superintendent of Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District, was one of the panelists. She said a hybrid model, which blends remote learning and in-person classes, is difficult to execute and plan for. She also indicated that most school districts will move to remote learning only if their county is classified as "purple" (for severe spread of COVID-19).
The full town hall can be seen below.

“One of my clear takeaways from the event was that teachers and parents have a lot of concerns about the health and safety of reopening schools, and that there isn’t enough support for students and schools to have either in-person or virtual class options, regardless of what school districts decide. The Ohio House needs to reconvene as soon as possible to address these issues and support schools and families this year," Robinson said.
