Serial Thief Targeting Solon Gym Customers

The suspect is snatching car keys from locker rooms and then stealing money from locked cars in the parking lot.

SOLON, OH — A serial thief appears to be targeting Planet Fitness customers. The thief snatches car keys out of a locker at the gym, then rifles through cars. He is primarily targeting cash, according to Solon Police.

His most recent victim was a 40-year-old Solon resident. On April 8, the resident went to Planet Fitness to work out, put his wallet inside his locked car, and then hung his car keys on the key holder hook in the gym.

After working out, the resident came back to find that his car keys had been moved. At the time, he didn't think anything of it. Then he got to his car.

The resident's wallet had been emptied of cash (about $140).

Luckily, police have acquired surveillance footage of the suspect they believe took the keys and then returned them. He appears to be the same suspect that has pulled similar thefts.

In fact, this is the second theft, with the same M.O., in seven days at Planet Fitness.

On April 1, a 31-year-old Bainbridge man was working out at Planet Fitness when someone took his car keys out of his locker, went to his car and stole $220. The suspect then returned the man's keys. Management said there had been a suspicious man lurking around the gym, possibly taking keys.
