Shoplifter Hits Ulta In Solon

The thief made off with more than a $1,300 of merchandise.

SOLON, OH — A shoplifter hit Ulta Beauty this past week, making off with more than a little bit of merchandise. Read on for more information on that incident and others from the past weeks. OVI, July 21 — Police stopped Derrick Battle, 33, of Maple Heights, after he made an improper turn from Harper Road onto Aurora Road. When officers spoke to Battle, his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot, and there was a noticeable odor of alcohol. Field sobriety tests were administered and indicated Battle was intoxicated. He was arrested and taken to Solon Jail. He refused to take a breath test. He was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI), improper left turn, and driving in marked lanes.

OVI, July 22 — After he failed to turn off his high beams, Girish Shukla, 53, of Solon, was stopped by police on Liberty Road. Shukla had been seen driving over the fog line and then weaving along the roadway. Police say Shukla had bloodshot eyes, was slurring his words, and smelled of alcohol. He took a breath test and blew a .088. He was charged with OVI, prohibited BAC, and issued written warnings for failure to dim high beams and marked lanes.

Theft, July 24 — Someone removed a 22-year-old Linden Drive resident's driver's license, debit card, credit card, and headphones from her duffel bag, which was stored in an unlocked locked at Planet Fitness. The credit card had already been used in a fraudulent transaction by the time the resident reported the theft. The detective bureau is investigating the incident.

Theft, July 25 —A shoplifter hit Ulta Beauty, 6025 Kruse Dr., on July 23. The manager of the store called police and reported the incident on July 25, saying a woman had been caught on the surveillance video stealing $1,381 of merchandise. The detective bureau will investigate.
