Shoplifting Suspect Allegedly Pushes Solon Grocery Employee

An employee saw a man trying to leave Market District with a full cart of groceries. The man hadn't paid for the food. Confrontation ensued.

SOLON, OH — Loss prevention officer is a largely thankless job. On Feb. 25, an employee at Market District on Aurora Road found that out.

At about 4:45 p.m., police were called to the grocery store for reports of a theft and assault. Officers were met by a loss prevention officer who described what had happened.

A 64-year-old man had filled a shopping cart full of groceries. Then the man allegedly tried to leave the store without paying.

The loss prevention officer jumped into action and confronted the man. The 64-year-old abandoned his cart, pushed the loss prevention officer and ran off.

Police were able to identify the suspect because the 64-year-old had made an earlier purchase at the store using his Giant Eagle advantage card. Police learned the man's residence, in Shaker Heights, and issued misdemeanor citations for theft and assault.
