Solon Among Nation's Best Communities For Music Education

The Solon Schools are one of only 17 school districts in Ohio to be named a "best community for music education."

SOLON, OH — The Solon Schools were named one of the best communities for music education by the NAMM Foundation this month. Only 754 schools nationwide received the designation this year. Only 17 Ohio school districts received the award in 2020.

“The strong commitment to the arts within the district’s educational program is a source of pride for our entire community,” said Fred Bolden, Superintendent Pro Tempore of the Solon Schools. “Congratulations to our students, staff and families, as well as the Solon and Glenwillow communities. For our students: Keep playing and making music at home. We have seen amazing examples of your music already during your at-home digital classes. We can’t wait until we can hear your voices and instruments again in our school buildings.”

To qualify for the award, school districts must answer detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, how the community supports music programs and more. Award-recipients must demonstrate their commitment to music education.

“The award celebrates districts and schools that are working hard to assure that music education is part of a well-rounded education available to all students,” said Mary Luehrson, executive director of the NAMM Foundation, in a video message to award recipients. “We hope this award at this time lifts teachers, parents, school administrators, community leaders and most of all students and supports the commitment we all share to advance music education for students everywhere.”
