Solon Cop Nearly Hit By Pickup Truck [Video]

The Solon Police Department shared a video of a close call one officer had recently to remind residents to drive safely.

SOLON, OH — Solon Police recently shared a video of a pickup truck spinning out of control on U.S. 422 and nearly hitting an on-duty officer that was helping a motorist on the side of the road. The department said it wanted to help explain why police can sometimes seem tense during roadside encounters.

The incident took place several weeks ago. The roads were clear of snow, but temperatures had dipped below freezing and left patches of ice along the highway. The conditions made for sneaky dangerous driving.

One driver found that out the hard way. While a patrolman was helping with a disabled car on U.S. 422, the pickup in the video hit a patch of ice, spun out and nearly collided with the car and the police officer. The whole incident was caught on dash cam and on the officer's body camera.

"We may seem a bit overbearing at times when we give people orders...."stay in your car, get out of your car, move your car". It is all in the name of safety... and time matters," the department said on Facebook.

Neither the officer or the occupants of either vehicle were hurt.

Still, the video shows the real dangers of even seemingly mundane police tasks, like helping a broken down car or issuing a ticket. Drivers should always move over one lane when police are in action or, failing that, slow down and give a wide berth.
