Solon Drivers Face Longer Commute Time Than Neighbors

SOLON, OH - Living in Solon has a lot of perks. Unfortunately, the commute to where you work is not one of them. Despite the presence of US 422 and a few other major byways, the city's congested traffic flow has pushed the average commute time for residents to 25.4 minutes. That's higher than many of Solon's neighboring cities, according to data from the US Census Bureau.

For example, Bedfordites (Bedfordians?) take 22.8 minutes to get to work. Macedonians need about 24.7 minutes to get to their office, despite being further away from Cleveland than Solon.

There are a few things that may factor into the commute. First, Solon has a large number of businesses within the city. That means a significant influx and exodus of cars during the morning and afternoon commute. The city is also partly submerged in the state's snow belt and will regularly get more snow than, say, its neighbor to the south, Macedonia.

Still, here's a snapshot of the commute time for a few cities near Solon:

• Bedford - 22.8 minutes
• Macedonia - 24.7 minutes
• Warrensville Heights - 24.7 minutes
• Brecksville - 23.5 minutes
• Garfield Heights - 23.7 minutes

Some communities in Cuyahoga County definitely have worse commutes. Residents in Broadview Heights are in their cars for an average of 28.7 minutes before they get into work. Those few minutes can be the difference between being on-time and being late. North Royalton needs 27.1 minutes. But both of those communities lack the highway access that Solon has. They also lack much of the major business presence that dots Solon's industrial neighborhoods.
